What is Visibility?

Visibility measures how often your brand is mentioned when AI assistants respond to relevant prompts. It’s the most fundamental metric in AI search analytics. When someone asks ChatGPT “What’s the best project management software?”, does your product get mentioned? The visibility score tells you.

How Visibility is Calculated

Visibility = (Mentions / Total Responses) x 100 For example:
  • You track 100 prompts across AI platforms
  • Your brand is mentioned in 35 responses
  • Your visibility score is 35%

What Counts as a Mention?

A mention is counted when your brand name (or any configured variation) appears in the AI response. This includes:
  • Direct recommendations (“I recommend Acme for…”)
  • Comparative mentions (“Compared to Acme…”)
  • Category lists (“Top tools include Acme, Beta, and Gamma”)
  • Feature discussions (“Acme offers this feature…”)

  • High visibility prompts: Prompts where you’re frequently mentioned
  • Low visibility prompts: Opportunities to improve
  • Zero visibility prompts: Prompts where you’re never mentioned

Interpreting Your Visibility Score

20-40%Average - Room for improvement
10-20%Low - Significant opportunity

Comparing to Competitors

Your visibility score is most meaningful when compared to competitors:
  • If you have 30% visibility but competitors have 15%, you’re leading
  • If you have 30% visibility but the leader has 70%, there’s work to do
