AI search reports measure different parts of discovery. Compare the same prompts, engines, date range, and topics before drawing conclusions.

Visibility is weighted by position

Visibility gives more weight to higher ranked brand positions in evaluated answers. It is not the percentage of answers that mention a brand. The report averages these scores across the observations in scope. For example, first place in one answer and absence from another produces 50% visibility. Second place in both produces 85% visibility even though the brand appears in every answer.

Average position includes missing observations

The comparison metric adds a position of 10 for each missing observation before averaging. This penalizes inconsistent coverage; it does not mean the brand was actually ranked tenth in those answers. A missing or unranked result in a single answer has no positive ranked position. Use lower average position together with higher visibility. Inspect individual answers when a summary changes unexpectedly.

Mention frequency measures ranked inclusion

Mention percentage counts valid completed answers where the brand has a positive ranked position, divided by valid completed answers in scope. Pending, failed, and unclassified answers are excluded. The frequency label is High at 75% or more, Medium from 25% to below 75%, and Low below 25%. No valid answers means no frequency label. An incidental reference in the answer text can appear in highlighted brand mentions without placing the brand among the ranked results. Check the saved ranking and answer text together.

Citations and source mentions

Citations are sources attached to an answer. Citation counts and shares describe the sources in the selected scope; they are not website visits. The Mentions report checks cited third-party pages for brand coverage and missing opportunities. This is separate from a brand’s ranked inclusion in an AI answer.

Referral traffic and conversions

AI referral clicks and conversion events depend on connected analytics. They measure visitors that reach your website. Answer visibility can change without a corresponding traffic change, so treat it as a separate signal rather than a traffic forecast.
